CRIME IN NORTH CAROLINA The rate per 100,000 people of Crime Index offenses reported to law enforcement agencies throughout North Carolina increased 0.6 percent during 2006 when compared to the figures reported in 2005. The rate of violent crime, which includes murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, rose 0.9 percent statewide. Individually, the rape rate increased 5.8 percent and the robbery rate increased 4.2 percent! The rate of property crime, consisting of burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft, increased 0.5 percent across the state. The rate for burglary increased 0.7 percent and larceny increased 0.1 percent. The motor vehicle theft rate increased 3.2 percent...
