It's Time for America to 'Get Alarmed'!

IT’S TIME FOR AMERICA TO ‘GET ALARMED’!

You’ve read the headlines, or witnessed the news---America is ‘succumbing to crime.’ : The most recent report noted ‘violent crime is on the rise in the United States’ Not just the old ‘rob and steal crimes’, but society is now faced with an almost ‘predatory mentality’ which permeates our businesses, our schools, and our communities; and leaves even our children having to deal with the possibility of serious, violent crimes being perpetrated upon them!

There are many ‘experts’ who will voice their opinion as to why this is happening, and the reasons cover everything from ‘environmental, bad parenting, media influence, even ‘video-games’. I have always been a pragmatic individual, so it should come as no surprise that my opinion on this matter goes straight to a possible ‘solution’ vs. attempting to find and attach blame. (The uncomplimentary truth is that ‘we are all to some degree ‘responsible’ for the manner in which we now live, for it is ‘us’-the people- who ultimately determine just what kind of life we all live.) “What happens to one, eventually affects others”….That being said, I would like to share my ‘solution’ for this ongoing and growing issue….’get alarmed’.

I speak not of the mental, emotional state of being ‘upset’, rather, I am advocating every law abiding citizen to make a concerted effort to possess and wear some type of personal alarm.

Crime prevention is all about ‘deterrence’... The art of putting something (or someone), between yourself as a possible victim, and the criminal who is considering perpetrating a crime upon yourself or family member. Most of are now aware that law enforcement cannot always ‘be there’ for us. And even if we do ‘wait’ for their intervention, alerting anyone to the prospects of a crime or mugging taking place would certainly change the odds of no one having enough information to pursue and catch the criminal .after the crime. As noted on the ‘deterrence page’, this could best be accomplished with a non-lethal manner of deterrence—thus the personal alarm.

I hope everyone will join and assist in putting some gas into an ‘Alarm America’ initiative. Where or whom you obtain one does not matter-just get and use one. Hopefully you can also contact your local law enforcement and media outlets and get them to work together in getting the word out that “your community is alarmed, and not an easy target” (this is being done in my home county)... This won’t stop all criminals; however, for those who calculate the percentages of ‘getting caught’, I do believe, the ‘alarm factor’ will indeed be factored into their decision on whom to mug.

If we stand together, and assist one another the way society is designed to function, we will all fare better as we continue our journey into the future, and give the criminal element ‘something else to ‘think’ about .(I have always contended that “the more a man thinks’, the better decisions he will make). ‘Alarming’, not arming, ourselves now, will go a long way towards ensuring we actually do indeed reach that future safely.
